Verona with a population of about 14,000, is tucked between the crests of scenic First and Second Mountains, just 15 miles west of the Hudson River. Within its 2.8 square mile area lies Verona Park, one of the prettiest public parks in New Jersey. A visit to the park, with its sparkling lake with paddle boats, ducks, geese, walking path and playground is bound to lift your spirits. Happy wedding parties can often be seen posing for pictures in front of the tranquil waterfall near the entrance.
Like many towns in the area, Verona has a traditional K-12 system. Four neighborhood elementary schools serve grades K-4, the middle school serves grades 5-8 and the high school serves grades 9-12.
Verona is only one mile from Interstate 280 to the south and two and one-half miles from either Interstate 80 or Route 3 to the north. These major highways provide access by car to Manhattan, Newark Airport and the Garden State Parkway. DeCamp buses travel down Bloomfield Avenue heading into the Port Authority Terminal in Manhattan. New Jersey Transit train service to Manhattan, or Hoboken with connecting PATH service to Manhattan is available in Montclair.
In addition to its park, Verona has athletic fields at the various schools as well as a municipal swimming pool, tennis courts and a recently built community center that houses after school activities and various municipal offices. Verona has a full-time police department and a volunteer fire department and rescue squad. There is a nicely equipped public library in Verona, a large supermarket as well as assorted shops, restaurants and services. Additional shopping is available at the Willowbrook, Livingston and Short Hills Malls. The closest hospitals are Mountainside in Montclair/Glen Ridge and St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
