North Caldwell is hidden away in the scenic, wooded hills in the highest part of northwestern Essex County, just 19 miles west of Manhattan. Within its 2.9 square mile area you will find approximately 7,400 residents who relish their beautiful homes, spacious wooded lots and winding streets. North Caldwell is an almost totally residential haven for commuters, seemingly light years away from the hustle and bustle of surrounding Essex County.
Two North Caldwell elementary schools serve students in grades K-6, the Grandview School serves grades K-3 and the Gould School serves grades 4-6.In conjunction with three other suburban Essex towns, students in grades 7-9 attend West Essex Regional Middle School and students in grades 10-12 attend West Essex Regional High School. Both are located in North Caldwell.
Conveniently located midway between Interstate 280 to the south and Interstate 80 to the north, North Caldwell is an ideal commute by car to the Garden State Parkway, the Lincoln or Holland Tunnels and Newark Airport. NJ Transit buses to Manhattan are available nearby at the Willowbrook Mall Park & Ride on Rte 46 in Wayne. NJ Transit train service to Manhattan or to Hoboken with connecting PATH train service is available in Little Falls and Montclair.
North Caldwell has a full-time police force and a volunteer fire department and rescue squad. In addition to two public parks with athletic facilities, North Caldwell has a very attractive community recreation complex with public tennis courts and a public swimming pool. North Caldwell does not have a library but residents may use libraries in surrounding towns for a nominal charge. Supermarkets are just a few minutes away in Caldwell and West Caldwell. Shopping is readily available at the Willowbrook and Livingston Malls and The Mall at Short Hills. The nearest hopsitals are Mountainside Hospital located in Montclair/Glen Ridge and St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston.
